Natalie Bookchin’s videos and installations explore new forms of documentary on subjects ranging from globalization, social isolation and mass connectivity, to labor, technology, and online DIY dance videos. She is currently at work on a documentary composed of intersecting video diaries made by people in the US living in poverty. She is considered a pioneer working at the intersection of documentary, narrative, social issues, and new media since the 1990s. Her many large-scale media projects have received national and international attention, including most recently Now he’s out in public and everyone can see (2012), an 18-channel video installation that weaves together multiple stories in which vloggers recount a series of media scandals involving African-American men. Her work has been written about in numerous essays and books, including forthcoming books: The Archive Effect, Routledge Press, 2013, Jaimie Baron, and An Aesthesia of Networks, Anna Munster, MIT Press 2013.
